Welcome Address
When we are requested to deliver the Welcome Address, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Most people, miss the basic gist and purpose of the speech and that is to "WELCOME." They start by making an apology. What is to be apologized when the program is still starting.
Then they proceed to thank everyone who made the event a success. The sour part of it is that they start to dominate the evening (or the morning/afternoon). A welcome does not take more than a minute or two. State what the gathering or event is all about - what everybody's goal is (maybe to have fun) and make everyone feel relax. It's supposed to be just an ice breaker.
Below is an example of a Welcome Address delivered during an Induction and a Christmas Party at the same time.

Brethren, Sisters, Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, and little Children…
Good Evening!
Once again it’s that time of the year when we are gathered as one big family under the banner of the [Name of Club]. It has become an annual event for our club not only to induct its new set of officers but also to share the meaningful spirit of Christmas with our families – that of sharing, of gift-giving, of fun and enjoyment and most of all of giving love.
May the spirit of Christmas be always in our hearts. On behalf of the officers of the [Name of Club], I welcome you all to our 2007 Christmas Party and Induction of Officers. Ladies and Gentlemen, may you all enjoy and have fun for the rest of the evening.
